Ford Aims To Rival Lamborghini And Porsche

Ford has already proven itself in the world of super sports cars with the GT model, and now it is seriously considering offering something even crazier. Ford’s Raptor offer could include an electrified sportsman who is not afraid of the terrain and has enormous power.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has been pondering Ford’s future in recent months. The return to classic cars, electrification, and everything else is still on the table and mostly depends on the business climate.
However, beyond that, Farley also has an idea for what should come next after the expensive and badass Mustang GTD, but his thoughts are directed away from the racetrack. He recently spoke on Bloomberg’s Hot Pursuit podcast. According to Automotive News, the Ford boss said:
“No one has ever built a supercar for gravel, for driving fast on sand and dirt. I think about it intensively, and usually such thoughts turn into something concrete.”
He also revealed that he had tasked his engineers with coming up with a “1,000-horsepower, high-powered, partially electric” off-road supercar concept, citing the success of the Raptor versions.
“These Raptor customers are telling us something,” Farley said in the podcast. “They’re not stupid; they’re very smart people. They spent $120,000 on an 800-hp pickup truck.
Currently, the most powerful Bronco in the Raptor version is powered by a 3.0 EcoBoost V6 with 424 hp, which is less than Jeep’s Wrangler with a large 6.4 Hemi V8 engine. Therefore, Ford will have to offer significantly more to compete with exotic brands.
If Ford were to pursue such a vehicle, it would follow the Mustang GTD formula. Translated, this means high cost and limited production. The GTD costs $327,000, and only 300 examples will be built, so this SUV wouldn’t be aimed at the average Ford customer either.
It would be a special project, a kind of tribute to the Dakar Rally, which Farley, as he said, wants to win.
