BYD’s YangWang Reveals $145,000 U9 Electric Supercar With Butterfly Doors
YangWang, the new premium EV brand of Chinese automaker BYD, reveals U9 electric supercar.
U9 has distinct C-shaped LED headlights and LED taillights that spans the full width of the car.
Other features includes butterfly doors as well as a louvered rear window with a transparent fin.
Equipped with “Yisifang” tech, Yangwang U9 can accelerate to 60 mph in just 2 seconds.
When Yangwang U9 arrives in Chinese market this year, it will be priced at ¥1 million ($145,340).
Last week, YangWang, the new premium brand of Chinese automaker BYD, shocked the world with the reveal of the U8, an electric off-roader that it plans to pit against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQG and Land Rover Defender EV.
During the presentation of the U8, BYD’s newly launched premium EV brand also surprised the attendees with the reveal of performance-focused Yangwang U9 battery-powered supercar.
Just like the U8 off-roader, the front of the U9 supercar features a distinct C-shaped LED headlights and huge air vents while its LED taillight spans the full width of the car.
Other features includes two sets of butterfly doors, which offers greater access into the cabin, as well as a louvered rear window with a transparent fin as seen on the Mercedes-AMG One.

Equipped with the “Yisifang” tech for its quad motor setup, Yangwang says that U9 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2 seconds, making it almost as quick as the Rimac Nevera, which can make the sprint in 1.85 seconds.
Power comes from four independent electric motors, generating more than 1,100 horsepower. Yangwang is yet to reveal the battery-pack and drive range.
When Yangwang U9 arrives in the Chinese market this year, it will be priced at over ¥1,000,000 ($145,340). Based on the price, it will rival GAC’s Aion Hyper Hyper SSR, which starts from ¥1,286,000 ($186,870).
BYD’s YangWang premium sub-brand aims to compete with European luxury marques like Audi, BMW, Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz.
