The Benz Velo which was introduced by Karl Benz in 1894 set the first speed record of 19 Kilometres per hour. However, the current land speed record is 1,228 kilometres per hour which is faster than the speed of sound. This record was set in October 1997 by the car below called Thrust SSC (Thrust supersonic car).
