Check out Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo’s classic Mercedes-Benz W114 limousine.

Awo’s eight seater Mercedes-Benz limousine was purchased in the year 1970.

The Mercedes-Benz limousine was used in 1979 and 1983 campaign for his political ambition.

It is on display at a museum situated at the Ikenne residence of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.





The Ikenne residence also houses a Mausoleum, where Awolowo’s remains and that of his wife, HID, was buried.

It’s been over 34 years since Nigerian nationalist and statesman Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo died peacefully at his Ikenne home, on 9 May 1987, at the age of 78.

Awolowo, who played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement, the First and Second Republics and the Civil War, was laid to rest in Ikenne, amid tributes across political and ethno-religious divides.

His remains (and later his wife Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (HID) on 25 November 2015), was buried in a Mausoleum situated at the Ikenne residence of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The Ikene Museum, commissioned on August 4, 1989 by H.I.D Awolowo, harbored some of Awo’s personal effects, including a classic Mercedes-Benz W114 limousine.

Awo’s eight seater Mercedes-Benz limousine, used in 1979 and 1983 campaign for his political ambition, was purchased 52 years ago in 1970.
