China’s CR450AF On Track To Be The World’s Fastest High-speed Train When It Enters Service
China’s CR450AF Fuxing prototype on track to be the world’s fastest high-speed train when it enters commercial Service.
CR450AF has an operating speed of 400km/h (250 mph) and a maximum design speed of 450km/h (280 mph).
It will enter regular service on existing high-speed lines in 2025, limiting its operating speed to 350km/h due to line limitations.
In 2027, CR450AF will be deployed on the Second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway, where it can reach 400km/h.
Chinese state-owned CRRC Corporation Limited (known as CRRC) has revealed a prototype of its next-generation CR450AF Fuxing, a high-speed that it says is on track to be the world’s fastest when it enters commercial service.
Manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang, the CR450AF has an operating speed of 400 kilometers per hour (250 mph) and a maximum design speed of 450 kilometers per hour (280 mph).

During a test run on June 28th 2024, a CR450 prototype reached speed of 453 (281 miles) per hour and mind-blowing relative speed (which is when two trains move in the opposite direction) of 891 kilometers per hour (554 mph).
Once in commercial service, it will be one of two world’s fastest high-speed train, with the other being CR450BF, whose prototype also made its debut in Beijing alongside the CR450AF on December 29.
The next-gen CR450AF bullet train is expected to enter regular service on existing high-speed lines used by CR400 Fuxing high-speed trains in 2025, limiting its operating speed to 350km/h (217.48 mph) due to line limitations.
In 2027, the CR450AF will be deployed on the 292km-long Second Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway, where it can reach its designed top operating speed of 400km/h – shortening travel time between the two cities to less than 50 minutes.
