Collector’s Item : Mercedes reveals limited-edition “Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport” to celebrate 130 years of motorsport.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is the last GT3 version to be powered by a naturally aspirated engine.

The highly exclusive edition of the GT3 car is being offered worldwide as a collector’s item in a limited edition of just 13 vehicles.

German automaker, Mercedes-Benz, has unveiled an highly exclusive race-inspired Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport to celebrate 130 years of motorsport under the sign of the three-pointed star.

Unveiled at the Monterrey Car Week, the highly exclusive edition of the GT3 car is also the last Mercedes-AMG GT3 version to be powered by a naturally aspirated engine. It is being offered worldwide as a collector’s item in a limited edition of just 13 vehicles.

Styling of the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194 racing sports car from 1952, while the exclusive silver colour is reminiscent of the legendary Silver Arrows.

Unlike the GT3 base model, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport gets a redesigned front splitter and air outlets (louvres) in the front wings, side skirts and the rear diffuser to increase downforce by 15 per cent.

Inside, the cabin is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLR 300 models from 1955. It features a seat upholstery in blue chequered fabric as well as the headrest upholstery and door loops in brown leather.

Other highlights inside each of the limited edition special models is the specially developed steering wheel with anodised buttons and walnut wood handles plus edition badge attached to the centre console.

Powering the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is optimized version of the legendary AMG 6.3-litre V8 naturally aspirated engine, which develops 680 hp (500 kW) and allows a top speeds of over 315 kilometres per hour.

Mercedes says that the prototype version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport beat the track record for GT cars earlier this year on the iconic 6.213-kilometre Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia by 2.074 seconds in a time of 1m 56.605s.

“With the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, we are once again underlining our history and our commitment to our internationally very successful Customer Racing programme,” said Michael Schiebe, the CEO of Mercedes‑AMG and head of the business units at Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class & Mercedes‑Maybach.

Also speaking about the exclusive GT3 collector’s item, Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, said :

“The unique Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is the crowning glory of our current motorsport portfolio. Not only is it strictly limited to 13 units, it is also the last GT3 version with our iconic AMG 6.3-litre V8 naturally aspirated engine.”
