Customers Must Undergo Strict Inspections In Order To Purchase The New Toyota GR GT

Toyota is preparing an all-new super sports car, the GR GT, but it won’t be easy to get your hands on it, even for those with a thick wallet. According to information from Gazoo Racing, prospective owners will have to go through a detailed vetting process before they get the chance to buy the car.
Toyota plans to launch the GR GT in 2027, a hybrid supercar that could cost more than €200,000. While that may seem unusual for Toyota, the supercar market has changed significantly in recent years.
Toyota is aware that the GR GT is entering a completely new segment for the brand, so it is paying special attention to the sales method and customer profile. Gazoo Racing sports car programme director, Jeff Ball, said that the company had to study in detail who it actually wanted to sell such a car to.
“We had to make a lot of preparations because these are customers we’ve never seen before in either Toyota or Lexus showrooms,” Ball told Autoblog.
The GR GT will not be sold in traditional Toyota showrooms in the US but rather in Lexus dealerships. Customers will be accompanied by specially trained specialists called “GR Meisters”. Their role will not be limited to handing over the car to the customer. Toyota wants to create a completely different ownership experience, so the GR Meister will be the owner’s main point of contact throughout the entire period of vehicle ownership.
“The Meister will be the first point of contact and will guide the customer through the entire process, not just during vehicle delivery. He will be like a friend for the entire period of car ownership,” explained Ball.
Toyota clearly wants to avoid a scenario in which buyers, immediately after taking delivery of the car, try to make a big profit by reselling it.
“There will be a lot of checks. It will seem like an interview process to buyers,” Ball admitted.
The company has not yet revealed the specific criteria it will use to select owners or whether buyers will be required to sign a resale waiver. However, Toyota wants to sell the cars to true enthusiasts, not people who plan to use them solely for social media or a quick buck.
According to available information, buyers who actually drive and use the cars, rather than collectors or influencers, could have an advantage.
Toyota is already preparing a sales network for the new model. At the secret GR Experience Centre in Texas, Lexus dealers are undergoing special training on how to sell a supercar with a six-figure price tag and a completely different approach to customers than what Toyota is used to.
