Deliveries Of the Volvo EX90 Finally Starts After A Year-Long Delay
Volvo kicked off production of the EX90 in the US in June, following a year-long delay caused by software issues – it was originally due to start in 2023. All’s well that ends, the saying goes, and today the brand is proudly announcing that the first customers will get their EX90 cars by the end of this month.
The first batch is being shipped to Volvo retailers in the US and Europe right now. Volvo plans to ramp up deliveries and include more markets “between the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2025”, according to its official press release on the matter. So at some point between October and March, the ramp-up should have occurred.
Volvo bills the EX90 as its new flagship, one that also represents “a paradigm shift for the company as the first Volvo powered by a core system” which features an “in-car AI computer” built on the Nvidia Drive platform, paired with the Snapdragon Cockpit platform from Qualcomm. So it looks like the EX90 comes equipped with a myriad of buzzwords as standard.
The result of all these buzzwords is said to be “a more responsive and convenient car experience”, whatever that means. The EX90 is also “born smart” and it’s equipped with “a range of sensors, including radars, cameras, and a lidar” for enhanced safety. All of these collect data continuously and are coupled with an always-on 5G connection. The EX90 supports over-the-air software updates too.
The EX90 has a range of up to 600 km WLTP, and, like every other Volvo before it, is designed to be the safest Volvo ever. Aside from being the first Volvo to have a lidar and the first one with a core computing system, it’s also the first Volvo which supports bi-directional charging.
Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said:
After driving it for 950 kilometres through three states in the US in various driving conditions and road surfaces, I only have positive memories. The charging, the handling, the ride comfort, the silence of the cabin and the epic sound system, the reliability, the tech and the feel of the UI – I’ve never driven a Volvo car like it. The EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars, and it begins now. The Volvo EX90 embodies our future as a fully electric car maker, with cars that continuously get better over time thanks to core computing and software updates. It’s a testament to our global engineering capabilities and reaffirms our position as a leader in the ongoing technology shift in the car industry.
