Solid-state batteries should bring a significant improvement for electric cars, including in terms of weight. Stellantis is also betting on it and wants to equip the Dodge Charger with such a battery in the foreseeable future. It is still a test.

Solid-state batteries are seen by some as the holy grail of EVs because they can mean a huge leap forward compared to conventional batteries in terms of weight and energy density. Stellantis also finds it interesting and is working with the American Factorial on such batteries. The group invested around 70 million euros in that company three years ago. Now there is important news because it is known when the first batteries will have to prove themselves in practice.

In 2026, a whole fleet of Dodge Chargers should hit the road with a solid-state battery on board. According to Stellantis, this is a ‘demonstration fleet’, so logically these Chargers will not appear in the American order books. Detailed information about the batteries is not yet available, although Stellantis already reports the capacity per kilo. The Charger normally has a battery pack of around 100 kWh. With the solid-state battery, such a capacity would come to a weight of only around 250 kilos.
