Does Ferrari Intend To Use Chinese Manufacturing For Its Second EV?

While the fact that Ferrari is developing its first electric vehicle seems completely absurd to many, the Italian company may have an even more incredible surprise in store for us. According to information reported by Reuters, Ferrari is reportedly exploring the possibility of developing a second electric vehicle that would use a Chinese platform as its basis.
Ferrari and Leapmotor are in talks about this possibility, Leapmotor CEO Zhu Jiangming told Reuters.
Leapmotor would reportedly provide Ferrari with an electric vehicle platform, although it is not clear what that platform would be. Leapmotor currently does not have any models in its portfolio that could meet Ferrari’s needs. The Chinese manufacturer makes compact city cars, sedans, and SUVs, none of which have technology worthy of Ferrari in terms of performance. Therefore, there is a high probability that this is a platform and architecture that has yet to be developed.
The fact that Leapmotor and Ferrari are talking to each other can be explained to some extent by the fact that Leapmotor is partly owned by Stellantis. Ferrari is not part of that group, but it has always been relatively close to Fiat and Alfa Romeo, which are, so that probably plays a role in this project. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna visited Leapmotor in February, but so far, there have been no reports of ongoing talks between the two automakers.
Ferrari did not want to comment on these allegations to Reuters, and the fact that there is no denial may mean that something is really “cooking.”
