For The First Time In 6 Months, Toyota Recorded A Decline In Global Production
Toyota announced that global production in November fell for the first time in six months, by 5.5 percent year-on-year to 821,723 vehicles, primarily due to weaker results in China and Japan.
Production abroad fell 3.4 percent to 563,546 vehicles, with Chinese production down 14 percent to 145,707 vehicles.
In Indonesia, production decreased by 11.2 percent due to stricter credit conditions and new taxes, and in Japan by 9.7 percent, mainly due to fewer working days in factories.
Toyota’s global sales decreased by 2.2 percent to 900,011 vehicles, while in China, after the end of government subsidies, a drop of 12.1 percent was recorded to 154,645 vehicles, reports Kyodo.
Among other Japanese manufacturers, Honda produced 218,927 vehicles in November, a drop of 33.7 percent, caused by production shutdowns in Mexico due to chip delivery problems.
Nissan posted a 5.5 percent drop in global production, while Suzuki posted a 14.1 percent rise to 307,772 vehicles, driven by strong demand in India.
Global automakers are facing greater market uncertainty due to trade tensions, regulatory changes, and an uncertain economic outlook, the Japan Times commented on Toyota’s latest results.
