Ford’s Bronco family is set to expand again, this time with a model designed specifically for Europe. Insider reports suggest that the new SUV will begin production in Valencia in 2027, combining the Bronco’s familiar rugged looks with the option of a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The American automaker plans to introduce the Bronco name to European customers, aiming to build on the brand’s American heritage. It’s a strategy Ford has already tested with models like the Mustang, Mustang Mach-E, and Explorer EV.

This new Bronco is not intended to replace the third-generation Kuga, which debuted in 2019 and was updated in 2024. Instead, it will sit just below, filling the space between the Kuga and the smaller Puma.

Despite its comparable character and market positioning, the upcoming SUV will not share its underpinnings with the Bronco Sport currently sold in the U.S. It is expected to retain the distinctive boxy profile and design features that tie together every member of the Bronco family.

Earlier reports suggested that the new SUV would be an indirect successor to the Focus hatchback and wagon, which recently ended production after 27 years. Sources indicate that the SUV will use Ford’s C2 platform, the same architecture that underpins a long list of models, including the Focus, Mondeo, Bronco Sport, Kuga, and Maverick.

The upcoming model is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with a self-charging hybrid version also being considered. However, a fully electric variant seems unlikely after disappointing sales of the Capri and Explorer EV in Europe.

Ford declined to comment on the details, although it previously confirmed that a model with a “multi-energy” powertrain would enter production at its Valencia plant starting in 2027. The factory, which currently produces the Kuga, is expected to receive a boost after the end of production of the Mondeo, S-Max, and Galaxy.
