Honda Will Go All-In And Stop Producing Fuel Cells With GM

Published

on

Honda has been working on fuel cell cars for decades. It currently produces these fuel cells in partnership with General Motors in the United States, but it has since discontinued this collaboration. Honda is going to do it itself.

Honda has been working on fuel cells for about thirty years. Over the past decades, it has built several FCX prototypes and even a few production models. The fuel cells Honda is currently using were developed in collaboration with General Motors and are being built by a joint venture with that American company. But not for much longer. Honda is pulling the plug at the end of this year.

Honda announced last year that it would focus on the development and production of fuel cells. Now it’s clear when the Honda-GM venture will come to an end. According to Honda, the joint venture has achieved “certain results,” and, after consultation, it has been decided to discontinue production of the current fuel cells.

Honda currently sells a hydrogen version of the Honda CR-V.
