How Long Should You Wait Before Driving If You Have Alcohol In Your System?
December is a time of parties and celebrations, so it’s good to remind people about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and driving. Alcohol stays in the body for a long time, which increases the danger on the roads.
In the UK, a quarter of drivers were fined for drink driving between 5 am and 11 am (the legal limit there is 0.8 per mille). What does this tell us? After a night of drinking, alcohol remains in the body, and drivers are not yet ready to get behind the wheel of a car.
So, be careful with alcohol, especially when it comes to deciding when you can drive. How will alcohol affect you? It depends on your gender, age, metabolism, weight, type of alcohol, what you ate before drinking, and the level of stress you are under…
British road safety organization Road Respect has analyzed alcohol consumption and driving ability and issued recommendations on how long you should wait after drinking or how long alcohol stays in your system. Try to follow these guidelines to avoid all possible traffic problems, from tragic to financial.
A glass of wine (13.5 percent alcohol):
One drink – 3.5 hours
Two drinks – 7 hours
Three drinks – 10.5 hours
Four drinks – 2 p.m.
Five drinks – 5.5 hours
A glass of hard liquor (40 percent alcohol):
One drink – 1.5 hours
Two drinks – 3 hours
Three drinks – 4.5 hours
Four drinks – 6 hours
Five drinks – 7.5 hours
Beer, lager (5 percent alcohol):
One drink – 2.5 hours
Two drinks – 5 hours
Three drinks – 7.5 hours
Four drinks—10 hours
Five drinks – 12.5 hours
