Hushpuppi, Who Flaunted Luxury Cars, Cash On Instagram, Gets 11 Years In Prison For Fraud
Nigerian fraudster, Hushpuppi, who flaunted private jets, luxury cars on Instagram gets 11 years in prison for money laundering.
In addition to the prison sentence, Hushpuppi was ordered to pay $1.7 million in restitution to two fraud victims.
Before his arrest in 2020, Hushpuppi was known for flaunting cash and fleet of exotic cars on his now deleted Instagram page.
Hushpuppi has flaunted Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-Maybach S650, Rolls-Royce Wraith and a Ferrari 458 Italia.
During the arrest, about N18 billion in cash and 13 luxury cars worth N2.6 billion were seized from Hushpuppi and his gang.
Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi, has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment over charges related to a multimillion dollar scam that targeted companies in the United States and overseas.
In addition to the prison sentence, Hushpuppi was also ordered to pay $1.7 million in restitution to two fraud victims. The 40 year old, who had already spent two years in prison, is expected to spend nine years behind bars in the US.
Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in June 2020, alongside 12 accomplices over allegations of hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.
Before his spectacular arrest at his gilded perch in Dubai, the social media influencer, who claimed to be a real estate developer, was known for flaunting wards of cash and his fleet of exotic cars on his now deleted Instagram page.
Hushpuppi has flaunted exotic cars like Bentley Bentayga SUV, a Lamborghini Urus, a Mercedes-Maybach S650, a Rolls-Royce Wraith and a Ferrari 458 Italia.
His last car purchase was N300 Million Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV. While sharing the news of his latest acquisition with his with his instagram fans, he said :
“My baby boo has arrived #1of1 #RollsRoyce #Cullinan #2020”
During the arrest over two years ago, about Dh150 million (N18 billion) in cash and 13 luxury cars worth N2.6 billion ($6.8m) were seized from Hushpuppi and his gang, according to the police.
