Kia Discontinues The Ceed And Ceed Station Wagon Models

Kia is carrying out a major reorganization of its model range, which includes the discontinuation of the popular Ceed and Ceed SW, changes in the engine for the Picanto, and a new, more powerful version for the Xceed.

The Picanto, the Korean brand’s second best-selling model after the Sportage, will now be available exclusively with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 67 hp. This removes the previous 1.0-liter engine with 62 hp and the 1.2-liter four-cylinder with 76 hp from the range.

On the other hand, the top-of-the-range Xceed crossover gets a more powerful 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 177 hp. At the same time, the previous 1.5-liter petrol engine with 158 hp in the base model has been replaced by a hybridized 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that develops 113 hp.

The biggest news is the complete discontinuation of the Ceed and its wagon version, the Ceed SW. A Kia spokesperson confirmed that these models, which were produced at the plant in Žilina, Slovakia, will not receive a direct successor, nor will the Proceed, whose production ended in December last year.

It is speculated that the void left by the discontinuation of these models will be filled by the new K4 model, which is expected to arrive in Europe later this year, although there is no official confirmation yet. This is Kia’s new competitor to the Volkswagen Golf, which is already being produced in Mexico for the North American market, and test models have already been seen on European roads.

The Ceed’s discontinuation frees up production capacity in Žilina for new electric models. A spokesperson confirmed that this creates space for the EV4, Kia’s first electric model in the C-segment, which will begin deliveries soon. In addition, the EV2, Kia’s new entry-level electric model, will also be produced at the same plant from early 2026.

The EV2 concept has already been unveiled, and it will be a technological twin to Hyundai’s model, which is expected to be called the Ioniq 2 and will be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show.
