Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday (today) May 29th 2024 commissioned fifteen (15) locally fabricated Ferry Boats at the Badore Ferry Terminal in Lekki to boost water Transportation in the State.

Sanwo-Olu, joined by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the State Executive Council, took inaugural ride on the boats, sailing from Badore to Ikoyi — a journey took an average of 27 minutes.





To further reduce the turnaround time in waterways transportation, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that additional 25 high-capacity ferries were expected to be fabricated in the second phase of construction in the boat factory.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at the Tincan port in Lagos, have seized 15 parcels of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed in a used Toyota Highlander SUV imported from Toronto, Canada.

According to a press release by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters on Tuesday, the drugs were concealed in the doors and body crevices of one of three used vehicles in a container coming from Toronto via Montreal.

“A swift follow up operation led to the arrest of two suspects : Sunday Sodade and Oriyomi Adesina, who were to receive the vehicle and the drug consignment.

“A bribe of six million naira offered NDLEA officers by the sender of the container based in Canada through his agent has also been registered as exhibit for the prosecution of the case.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has directed an immediate prosecution of a truck driver who knocked down an arresting Marshal along Kaduna-Doka road on 29 May, 2024.

While vowing to prosecute the recalcitrant driver, the Agency noted that in recent times, a number of its personnel have lost their lives as a result of assaults, knockdown and unprovoked attacks.

Part of a statement signed by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Acting Corps Public Education Officer FRSC Headquarters reads :

“Disturbed by the rising spate of knockdown, assaults and attacks on patrol operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, particularly the recent knockdown of an arresting Marshal along Kaduna-Doka road on 29 May, 2024; the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed has directed a holistic investigation and immediate prosecution of the recalcitrant driver of the truck.”

The Lagos State Government says that the recently introduced Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices alongside Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras (ANPR) captured 26,816 real-time traffic violations between January 2023 and March 2024.

Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known on Tuesday May 28th 2024 during the launch of the Lagos State Transport Policy held at the Sheraton, Ikeja.

Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu averred that the government has enhanced traffic management and enforcement by deploying TMS devices alongside ANPR.

He also noted since the inception of his administration, the ANPR Camera has recorded 856,680 violations, minimising human intervention in traffic management and substantially curbing traffic violations and accidents.
