Latest VW Passat Comes With A New Plug-In-hybrid Engine
The new Volkswagen Passat is also available as a plug-in hybrid and it turns out to have quite an impressive driving range. In that respect, it surpasses the new Tiguan, which is already scoring highly in that area.
Volkswagen has been quite conservative in estimating the driving range of its latest plug-in hybrids. Initially, there was talk of about 100 km of fully electric driving range, but the updated Golf and the all-new Tiguan far exceed that. That is the advantage of the cautious first estimates; Volkswagen can now make a good show of the actual driving ranges. There can only be one, and that turns out to be the new Volkswagen Passat eHybrid.
The Passat was also stated to have a fully electric driving range of around 100 km when it was unveiled, but it now appears that the range according to the WLTP cycle is up to 134 km. That also promises something for the new Skoda Superb, with which the Passat shares its basis. If 134 km is not enough, you can pump the 19.7 kWh battery pack of the Passat eHybrid from 10 to 80 percent on the fast charger in roughly 25 minutes. The 204-hp Volkswagen Passat eHybrid can tow 1,800 kilos, while the 272-hp version can tow 2,000 kilos.
The Volkswagen Passat eHybrid can be ordered directly as a Business from €49,990. As an Elegance Business, it costs €54,990, and as an R-Line Business, it costs €54,990. For those prices, you have the 204-hp version. If you want it with 272 horsepower, you will spend at least €54,990, and you will immediately have it as an Elegance Business. The R-Line Business costs €56,990.
