The fleet of high-powered, lightweight interceptors allows officers to move quickly through busy streets, access areas traditional vehicles cannot reach, respond faster to crime, and arrest more suspects.

“Criminals are using high-powered, often illegally modified e-bikes to commit offences such as phone theft and robbery. By expanding this capability, we have listened to our officers, giving them the tools they need to disrupt criminality and keep Londoners safe.”

Featuring front and rear blue flashing lights and loud sirens, the MET police’s Sur-Ron e-bikes are absolute speed demons, boasting a top speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). This allows officers to match the blistering acceleration of illegally modified e-bikes used by thieves.

The deployment of these high-speed patrol bikes has already driven down phone thefts by over 13,000 offences this past year. The Metropolitan Police has also taken over 2,500 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters off the streets so far in 2026.

Sarah Jones MP, Minister for Policing and Crime, said, “People should be able to enjoy everything London has to offer without any concern of becoming a victim of crime.

“By rolling out these new Sur-Ron bikes, officers can now reach any incidents more quickly, target offenders more effectively, and crack down on crime in some of the busiest parts of the capital.”
