Lotus CEO Criticises His own Hypercar For Being Excessively Heavy
Feng Qingfeng, the CEO of Lotus, is currently in some hot water. The head of the company made comments about curb weights and sports vehicles that are completely at odds with what the company is now manufacturing. Qingfeng claimed that any sports car weighing more than 1,800 kilogrammes (about 3,968 pounds) is substandard, according to CarNewChina.
The majority of the current Lotus series weighs more than that. The curb weight of the Lotus Evija hypercar is 4,200 pounds. According to the CEO of Lotus, his Evija hypercar is only average.
However, Qingfeng’s remarks might have some beneficial effects. For each car it produces, Lotus needs to strive for a kerb weight of 1,800 pounds, especially in light of Lotus’ ongoing development of a V8 supercar.
The hybrid V8 drivetrain of the recently teased Lotus Type 135 will produce more than 1,000 horsepower. Lotus would have an incredible power-to-weight ratio and an incredible driving experience if it could maintain a low curb weight.
