McLaren Group Denies It’s Been Sold To Audi (UPDATE)
McLaren has issued a statement denying that it is being sold to Audi.
This followed reports on various media that Audi was in the final stages of buying the British supercar company.

Laura Conrad, PR Manager at McLaren, said in a statement: “McLaren Group is aware of a news media report stating it has been sold to Audi. This is wholly inaccurate and McLaren is seeking to have the story removed.
“McLaren’s technology strategy has always involved ongoing discussions and collaboration with relevant partners and suppliers, including other carmakers, however, there has been no change in the ownership structure of the McLaren Group”, the statement read.
Though news of an Audi buyout apparently isn’t true, reports continue to file in on VW Group’s efforts to enter Formula 1 from 2026, when the new engine regulations come into place. It is claimed that an Audi or Porsche entry into the sport via either McLaren or Red Bull is still a possibility going forward.
According to reports, Audi hasn’t been the only German car company rumored to express interest in purchasing McLaren. Reports earlier this month suggested BMW was also interested in acquiring the British carmaker, only for the Bavaria-based manufacturer to deny those claims.
McLaren sold off its Applied Technologies division back in 2020 and its own headquarters in 2021 to remain financially stable going into 2022.
However, according to The Drive, the company will face significant financial challenges in the near future related to outstanding loans. So a buyout could help it stay afloat going forward.
