Mercedes-Benz EQS Gets The AMG Treatment With Up To 751Hp (Photos)
Mercedes-Benz’s flagship electric sedan now has the AMG treatment in the form of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, which steers and drives all four wheels and produces up to 751 hp when fitted with the optional Dynamic Plus package.
This allows the sedan to hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour) in an estimated 3.4 seconds making it identically as quick as the E63S. Its standard output is 649 hp (483 kW) and 700 lb-ft (949 Nm) of torque, though Mercedes doesn’t provide a guess for its 0-60 time. The car’s top speed is 155 mph (249 kph) – another AMG Dynamic Plus pack feature.
Although the AMG EQS can’t hope to replicate the E63’s booming V8 soundtrack, it does come with the AMG Sound Experience with a Performance mode to complement aggressive driving.
The AMG EQS has a 400-volt battery with a capacity of 107.8 kWh. The battery management system can be updated over the air, which is a new feature. In Sport and Sport+ driving modes, the AMG-configured battery prioritizes performance, whereas Comfort prioritizes range. With a 15-minute charge, Mercedes says you can add around 186 miles of range, although this is based on the WLTP cycle.
Inside, AMG-specific seats feature a mix of leatherette and microfiber with red stitching, and Nappa leather will be an option. The leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel comes with paddles that can control the amount of brake regeneration. The star of the interior show is the 56-inch Hyperscreen dashboard comprised of a 17.7-inch central touchscreen and dualing 12.3-inch touchscreens for the driver and front passenger all under a single pane of glass.
The AMG EQS will come standard with a long list of safety technology including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and a Level-2 driver-assist system that is not hands-free.
