Minister Of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, Commission 10 Firefighting Trucks Worth Over ₦12 Billion
Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, commission ten Rosenbauer Panther firefighting trucks worth over ₦12 billion.
Sirika justified the expensive purchase, explaining that the FAAN hasn’t purchased any firefighting trucks in eight (8) years.
Minister for Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Hadi Sirika has commissioned ten (10) Rosenbauer Panther modern firefighting vehicles for the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN).
In a post shared on his Twitter handle, Sirika revealed that the 10 Rosenbauer Panther firefighting trucks for Nigerian Airports cost over ₦12 billion to acquire.
The Minister of Aviation justified the expensive purchase, explaining that the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) hasn’t purchased any firefighting trucks in eight (8) years.
“Just commissioned 10 Firefighting trucks, total cost of over 12Bn Naira. More to come in due course. Safety has been the Buhari focus in Aviation, since 2015. Hitherto FAAN has not bought new trucks in 15 years.”, Sirika’s tweets reads.
As expected, the whopping sum of money spent in acquiring the ten high-capacity firefighting vehicles generated mixed reactions from the public.
Reacting to Sirika’s tweet, Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian human rights activist and the 2023 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), said :
“Wow! you mean you bought a single fire engine for over $2 million each. Wonders shall never cease. You and @mbuhari really finished Nigeria! #RevolutionNow”.
But another user, Naj@mufazhha, seems to believe that fire fighting trucks can be so expensive, depending on the make.
Reacting to Sowore’s tweet, Naj@mufazhha, said :
“Google it! Won’t hurt. “A basic fire truck or engine with no equipment on it can cost as little as $250,000, but the price can go up to $6 million (rarely) depending on the type of vehicle. Then there’s the equipment too which can cost more than the truck itself.”
Another user K@ibrahimbalogun, corroborates Naj@mufazhha account.
“I made a similar mistake of assuming the trucks are the regular ones we know. Then I looked up the make and model. Those are Rosenbauer Panthers. The cheapest price in 2015 was $1.6 million each. That excluded personnel training and shipping. The price seems in order. Pls check.”
