₦500k And No Car: Ekiti Court Jails Fake Soldier Two Years For Nigeria Customs Car Auction Fraud
₦500,000 and no car: Ekiti Court jails fake soldier two years for Nigeria Customs Car Auction fraud.
Convict fraudulently obtained the sum of money from the petitioner under the false pretence of securing a vehicle for him.
Following a plea by the defendant’s counsel, he was sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦150k fine.
The Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Bethel Onyedikachi Ukachukwu to two years in prison for car auction fraud after Justice Lekan Ogunmoye found him guilty of obtaining money by false pretence.
Ukachukwu was prosecuted by the Ekiti Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on three amended counts linked to a fraudulent car auction transaction.
The EFCC had arraigned him before the court after investigating allegations that he obtained ₦500,000 from Mr Kayode Aina Samuel under the pretext that he would secure a bid for an auctioned vehicle for him through the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

According to the EFCC, he falsely represented himself as a lieutenant in the Nigerian Army and fraudulently obtained the sum of money from the petitioner under the false pretence of securing a vehicle for him.
“However, he neither delivered the vehicle nor refunded the money. He has since been remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre,” the EFCC said in a statement.
Following a plea by the defendant’s counsel, T.A. Salami, that the convict was remorseful for his actions and had made restitution to the petitioner, Justice Ogunmoye sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦150,000 fine.
