Russia President Vladimir Putin has offered humanitarian aid to flood-hit North Korea after last week’s record-breaking downpour which left thousands of people stranded and caused an unknown number of casualties.
“I ask you to convey words of sympathy and support to all those who lost their loved ones as a result of the storm,” Putin said in a telegram to Kim Jong-un, adding “you can always count on our help and support”.

North Korea has reportedly used about ten military helicopters to evacuate more than 5,000 people from severe flooding in the northwest of the country near the Chinese border.
Photos shared shows Mr Kim travelling through floodwaters in a black Lexus LX 600 SUV to survey the scale of the floods and to supervise evacuation efforts. In another photo, the North Korean leader was seen riding in a cramped rubber rescue boat to inspect a flood-hit part of Sinuiju.

According to local news media, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the leader of the flood-prone Asian country reprimanded officials for their failure to prepare and respond to the recent torrential rain.
“They, seized with defeatism at combat with nature, do not confidently turn out in the disaster prevention work, only expecting chance from the sky,” Kim said.
