According to ICIR, N3k, N600, and N1800 are levied on each buses,. Okada and Keke respectively, daily.
Reacting to the report, NURTW boss urged the media houses to disregard the report as there is no iota of truth in it.
NURTW boss challenged ICIR to come out with data and statistics on how they arrived at the said figure.
Last year, a statistical report released by the International Centre for Investigative Report (ICIR), revealed that the Lagos chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) generates about N123.8bn annually.
According to ICIR, the sum of N3000, N600, and N1800 are levied on each buses, Motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Marwa) respectively, on a daily basis.
The likely ‘unremitted’ money generated by Lagos chapter of the NURTW, formerly head by Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, amounts to 29.4 per cent of Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N418.99 billion in 2020.
The money is bigger than the IGR of oil-rich Rivers State, whose its IGR was N117.19 billion in 2020. It is also enough to service the annual budget of Nasarawa, Niger, and Yobe states put together.

Reacting to the report, the president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, urged the media houses to disregard the report as there is no iota of truth in it.
The NURTW boss, who made the clarification in a chat with journalists, challenged the so called NGO to come out with data and statistics on how they arrived at the said figure.
He said :
“It is unfortunate that some armchair NGO will just sit down somewhere and be manufacturing figures to confuse the people. I challenge them to come our with proof of how they arrived at that figure. It is rather unfortunate too that majority now believe their fabricated stories”
Baruwa stated that NURTW is large employer of labour after federal government (FG), with its members in every local government in Nigeria.
He said :
“It is the responsibility of the union to cater for the welfare and interest of its members and appealed to journalists and media houses to disregard the said report as there is no iota of truth in it”.
