Official: Ford Mustang GTD Becomes The Fastest American Production Vehicle (Video)
Ford has officially announced that its Mustang GTD has achieved a lap time of 6 minutes and 57.685 seconds at the German Nürburgring, at an average speed of 110.6 miles per hour (177.96 km/h).
That makes it the fastest American production car on that track and only the sixth standard production car to achieve a time of less than seven minutes.
It should also be noted that German Dirk Muller, winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, was behind the wheel and that the car used during the race was equipped with mandatory safety equipment. This included a competition seat with five-point harnesses and a roll cage, ensuring maximum safety for the driver during high-speed driving.
