Ogun State electric bike owners to pay N2,500 to swap dead battery-packs with fully-charged ones – Govt.

Last week, Ogun Govt launched 3 Battery Swap Stations, where dead battery-packs can be replaced in about five minutes.

The 3 battery swap stations are located in Abeokuta at MKO Abiola Stadium, Pansheke and Oke Sokori.

According to Ogun Govt, the cost to swap is cheaper that what a commercial rider spend on fuel per day.

The Ogun State government has said that electric bike owners will pay Two Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N2,500) to swap their dead battery-packs with fully-charged ones at the three Battery Swap Stations located across the State.

It will be recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun last week launched electric bikes and electric and CNG-powered tricycles in a bid to reduce the cost of transportation and to promote cleaner environment in the State.

For easy recharging of the electric bikes, he also launched three Battery Swap Stations, where riders can swap their nearly dead battery-packs with a fully-charged one in about five minutes.

Speaking with Punch, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Kayode Akinmade, said e-bike owners can have their battery-pack swapped at a cost cheaper that what a commercial rider spend on fuel per day.

He said :

“For now, the charging points for the e-bikes are only available in Abeokuta. There is one very close to the MKO Abiola International Stadium… there is one at Panseke and at Oke-Sokori.

“These stations are connected to uninterrupted Independent Power Plant and so the issue of epileptic power supply has been taken care of.

“The users of these e-bikes will also be paying N2,500 for the charging of their batteries, which could last for a day. This is relatively cheap when compared to what they will be spending if they are to buy fuel.”

At the launch, the Ogun State Governor said that the commercial motorbikes can ride up to 75-80 kilometres on a full charge, thus reducing transportation costs by 40 per cent.
