In March, every third new car sold in Norway was a Tesla. But more and more people are reporting rust problems on Tesla’s Model 3, which was launched in Norway seven years ago. There are now more than 57,000 such cars on the road.

Rust is reported around the fenders, on parts of the brake system, on the suspension arms, on the tailgate, and in other areas.

The Norwegian Association for Electric Vehicles (NEV) is aware of the rust problem.

– We are aware that the Model 3 can rust, especially on the brake pipes, both front and rear, says head of testing Ståle Frydenlund of the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association for Nettavisen, adding:

– The general problem is that a good number of cars are not sufficiently protected against rust, and we would like the cars sold in Norway to be better prepared for Norwegian winter roads.

The Norwegian Automobile Club (NAF) is also aware of the problem with one of Norway’s most popular cars.

– We are aware of paint defects on Tesla cars of various models and years of production. Unfortunately, Tesla delivered cars with bad paint or paint defects at the factory, says Nils Sødal, senior advisor for communications at the NAF, for Nettavisen.

He says the NAF has seen and received reports of paint damage and rust in car wheel arches from its members.

– Some Model 3s are known to have peeling paint in the wheel arches, lots of stone damage and other paint damage, says Dødal.
