Rapide E : Aston Martin Reveal Its First All-electric Car
British luxury marque Aston Martin has unveiled its first all-electric car at the Shanghai Motor Show, nearly four years after it was originally announced. Only 155 of the four-door Rapide E will ever be produced.
The 602-horsepower Rapide E is an electric version of the petrol-powered Rapide S. Inside, its analog displays have been replaced by a 10-inch digital screen that shows state of charge, power levels, real-time energy consumption and more.
The rear-wheel-drive car is powered by two electric motors mounted in the back. Its 800V, 65 kWh battery system are housed where the V12 engine, the transmission and the fuel tank would go in the petrol-powered version.
It comes with a 155 miles an hour top speed and a zero to 60 miles an hour in under four seconds (0 – 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds). Its electric powertrain can deliver three driving modes: GT, Sport and Sport+.
The automaker said it will go over 200 miles on a single charge. The battery can charged at a rate of up to 300 range-miles per hour when plugged into a high-speed charger outlet.
Beyond this Limited Edition Rapide E, Aston Martin will leave the electric vehicles up to its Lagonda Brand , which promises to make the production version of the luxury all-electric Lagonda SUV concept by 2023.
The All-electric Rapide E is available to order now and prices are only available upon ordering. Prices for the petrol-powered Rapide S starts at just over $200k, so expect to pay more for the Rapide E.
