Sanwo-Olu Launches Fifteen (15) 40-passenger Ferry Boats To Boost Water Transportation In Lagos - autojosh

Sanwo-Olu officially commissions Fifteen (15) 40-passenger locally fabricated Boats to boost water transportation in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu took inaugural ride on the boats, sailing from Badore to Ikoyi — a journey took an average of 27 minutes.

The boats were manufactured by Caverton Marine in a factory located in Badore, which is jointly run by LASG and the private firm.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that additional 25 ferries will be fabricated in the second phase of construction in the boat factory.





Commissioning of the new boats comes a day after Governor Sanwo-Olu unveiled the new Lagos Transport Policies.

Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday (today) May 29th 2024 commissioned fifteen (15) locally fabricated Ferry Boats at the Badore Ferry Terminal in Lekki to boost water Transportation in the State.

Sanwo-Olu, joined by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the State Executive Council, took inaugural ride on the boats, sailing from Badore to Ikoyi — a journey took an average of 27 minutes.

In addition to enhancing rapid connectivity between communities in the State, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the deployment of the new boats dubbed Omni Bus would further catalyse economic prosperity by saving hours lost in traffic.

He said:





“Today marks yet another significant milestone in our quest to revolutionise transportation in Lagos in line with our T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda. Acquisition and deployment of these ferries for commercial operations symbolise our commitment to transforming Lagos into a city that thrives on efficient, clean and sustainable transportation.

“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to creating an integrated, multimodal transportation system that makes daily commutes smoother and more seamless.

“The launch of these ferries reaffirms our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all Lagosians, while investing in infrastructure that promotes safety, reliability and convenience for the public.”

The fifteen 40-passenger boats were manufactured by Caverton Marine in a factory located in Badore area of Eti-Osa, which is jointly run by Lagos State Government and the private firm.

To further reduce the turnaround time in waterways transportation, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that additional 25 high-capacity ferries were expected to be fabricated in the second phase of construction in the boat factory.

The Governor assured Lagosians that the newly launched boat ferries were equipped with revolutionary technology to ensure commuters’ safety, comfort, and convenience.

He also added that State’s waterways regulator had recently acquired two additional patrol boats, and set up a Search and Rescue Unit, and a floating clinic for quick response to emergencies.

The commissioning of the new boats comes a day comes a day after Sanwo-Olu launched the Lagos State Transport Policy, a roadmap designed to guide the continued development and regulation of the state’s transportation sector.

Speaking at the launched of the Lagos State Transport Policy on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu said that the newly launched Transport Policy encompasses the integrated Multi-Modal Transport System that ensures seamless connectivity between road, rail, and water transport modes.
