The New 2022 Lexus RZ450e Will Be Unveiled Tomorrow

The RZ450e, a sleek, performance-oriented SUV, will be the first unique Lexus electric car, which will be officially presented and detailed tomorrow (20 April).

It’s based on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, but with custom tweaks aimed at boosting “the driving experience to the next level,” and was already showcased in near-production-ready shape when Toyota and Lexus unveiled 15 all-new electric concept cars late last year. It’s the same size as the existing NX crossover and has a comparable appearance.

The RZ is clearly visible in photos released as part of Lexus’s global sales data for 2021. The design remains identical from the concept exhibited in December, with an overall appearance that is comparable to the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X with which it shares its platform, albeit a black C-pillar helps to give a more streamlined aspect.

It sits lower to the ground than a standard SUV, just like its Toyota and Subaru brothers. It also incorporates a number of new design elements that were initially seen on that concept.

The rear, on the other hand, is a complete departure from the previous two automobiles. Lexus’ EVs are likely to be distinguished by a slim rear light bar and a spelled-out brand name, both of which were first seen on the LF-Z concept.

Pascal Ruch, Lexus’ Europe vice-president, told Autocar that giving “exhilarating driving performance” is a priority for the company, and that future EV variations will “complement the brand’s athletic position.”

The RZ will have completely variable four-wheel drive and steer-by-wire technology, as well as “excellent handling and roadholding,” according to the company.
