Production Freeze At Jaguar Land Rover After Cyberattack

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is still suffering the consequences of a cyberattack earlier this month. JLR, part of the Indian company Tata Motors, is extending the production freeze until October 1.
On September 2, JLR reported that it had been hit by a serious cyberattack, impacting its retail and manufacturing operations. According to the automaker, this is still the case, and production will therefore be halted for another week.
“We are taking this step to provide clarity for the coming week while we develop a plan for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation,” the company said. The identity of the attacker remains unknown.
JLR has three factories in the United Kingdom, where approximately 1,000 cars are produced daily. The company is reportedly losing “tens of millions of pounds” daily due to the production halt. There are also significant concerns about its 33,000 employees, many of whom are currently working from home.
The shutdown is also impacting JLR’s British supply chain, which consists of many smaller companies and supports approximately 104,000 jobs in the country. Across the UK, businesses are also feeling the effects. For example, the German company Eberspächer, which supplies exhaust systems, and the Slovakian company Hollen, which ensures the quality of car parts, are being affected.
