The Volkswagen Works Council Is Afraid Of Even More Job Losses
Not 50,000, nor 100,000, but as many as 140,000 jobs are at risk at Volkswagen, according to the works council.
As yet, there is no white smoke from Wolfsburg regarding the reorganization that appears imminent. In any case, it is causing quite a stir, not only in the automotive industry. As one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, the Volkswagen Group is a major engine for the German and, consequently, the European economy. At least 50,000 jobs are being cut, and it recently emerged that another 50,000 may be at risk. And it doesn’t stop there, warns the Volkswagen Group Works Council.
According to Reuters, the Works Council states that the total could reach 140,000. Whether that number becomes a reality depends on factory closures, according to the council. That sounds logical in itself. At the end of August, VW CEO Oliver Blume will give factory employees in Wolfsburg, Emden, and Zwickau the opportunity to discuss the future with him. So, hopefully, more will become clear then.
