Toyota Again Is Recalling More Than 5000 Vehicles
Toyota is recalling 5,408 Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models in the U.S. due to a rear axle carrier manufacturing defect that could cause loss of vehicle control. Owners will be notified by September 6 for inspections and potential repairs.
Toyota has disclosed that both the Grand Highlander and the Lexus TX models are equipped with rear axle carriers constructed from forged aluminum. Although these components are engineered for durability, the manufacturer has identified a defect stemming from a supplier error, resulting in materials that fail to meet requisite strength specifications.
Consequently, these rear axle carriers are susceptible to fracturing at the point of attachment to the toe control arm. Such a failure could compromise rear vehicle stability and elevate the risk of a collision. This recall represents a significant setback for Toyota, particularly given that these relatively new models have previously been subject to recall actions.
In this case, a total of 5,408 models are being recalled across the United States. These consist of 2026 Lexus TX and TX Hybrid models built between April 10, 2026, and April 27, 2026, as well as 2026 Lexus TX Plug-in Hybrid models manufactured from April 10, 2026, to April 21, 2026. In addition, 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander models built from April 10, 2026, to April 27, 2026, are being recalled, as are 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrids made between the same dates.
Toyota reports that only 5% of recalled vehicles likely have the defective axle carrier, with no related accidents or claims reported. Owners will be notified by September 6 to visit a dealership for inspection and potential sub-assembly replacement.
