Toyota To Replace Engines Of Over 100,000 Tundra And Lexus LX600 Trucks
Sometimes recalls are for something relatively small. Sometimes for something very big. Toyota has a recall pending that most definitely falls into the latter category. The engines of over 100,000 SUVs and pickups, mainly delivered in the United States, will be replaced.
In May of this year, Toyota released a document indicating that certain models that were delivered with Toyota’s 3.4 V6 with two turbos could potentially have serious problems. During the production process, ‘dirt’ could have been left behind in the power source, which could adhere to the crankshaft’s main bearings, possibly resulting in defective bearings. This then results in a ticking, not running smoothly, or not running smoothly at all. According to Toyota, the six-cylinder can even cut out while driving. In May, Toyota indicated that it was looking for a solution. This does not appear to come in the form of a repair.
Toyota will replace the engines of the models involved in the recall. The recall affects 98,568 Toyota Tundras (built between November 2021 and February 2023) and 3,524 Lexus LX 600s built between July 2021 and November 2022. The hybrid variant of the Tundra also has a 3.4 V6, but it is not involved in the recall. The full-size Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LS 500, and GX 550—also delivered with the six-cylinder—are also not.
