Volkswagen Ends Production Of The ID.4 In The US

Kia’s and Hyundai’s EV sales have completely collapsed in the US; Stellantis is discontinuing all (really, all) plug-in hybrids in the US; Ford is scrapping the F150 Lightning; Honda is abandoning the 0 models even before launch; and Volvo has decided it’s no longer working with the EX30. These are just a few examples of the changing situation in the US, where EV subsidies no longer exist, CO₂ is no longer seen as an issue, and EVs seem to be fading into the background at a rapid pace.

Volkswagen previously joined in the fun by removing the ID.Buzz from the lineup after just one model year – formally and temporarily. Now the ID.4 is joining them. That was Volkswagen’s first EV in the US after the E-Golf, i.e., the ID.3 was never available in America. Volkswagen even builds the ID.4 in Chattanooga, USA, but that comes to an end in April.

The German car brand maintains a positive outlook by announcing that it intends to focus in Chattanooga on the all-new Atlas, a large family SUV with petrol engines. The ID.4 production line will fall victim to this, although Volkswagen emphasizes that the ID.4 will remain available to American customers thanks to the ample stock. According to Volkswagen, that stock is sufficient to supply customers with ID4s until 2027, which is telling in itself.

The American farewell to the ID.4 does not seem to be permanent: Volkswagen says it will bring a future version.
