Volvo Cars Saw Shares Grow To More Than 33 Percent
Shares of Volvo Cars, the renowned Swedish automaker, surged by more than 33 per cent on Thursday, sparking excitement among investors. This impressive surge followed the release of the company’s third-quarter profit, which far surpassed analysts’ expectations, showcasing Volvo’s strong performance and resilience in a competitive market.
For the July-September period, Volvo Cars, which is owned by the Chinese company Geely Holding, reported an operating income of 6.4 billion Swedish crowns ($680.4 million), which is well above analysts’ projections and more than the previous year’s 616 million dollars, according to financial results, reports Anadolu Agency.
The company’s earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) margin in the third quarter was 7.4 percent, up from 6.2 percent in the same period last year.
Volvo said that the good results were partly due to certain one-time items, but that a major contribution to the improvement came from a cost-savings program worth $1.9 billion.
“During the quarter, the action plan brought a faster-than-planned reduction in variable and indirect costs,” the company said in a statement.
However, the automaker’s third-quarter revenue was $9.1 billion, down from $9.8 billion in the June-September 2024 period.
The company sold 160,514 cars in the third quarter, also down seven percent from the same period in 2024.
“But the company returned to modest retail growth in September, thanks to record results in the UK and other markets such as Austria, Turkey, Canada, Brazil and Mexico,” the report said.
The company noted that despite the solid results, the third quarter results still reflect the volatility of the global economy and the challenging market environment.
“During the quarter, Volvo Cars’ business continued to be under pressure due to the decline in the overall premium vehicle market and strong competition, particularly in the all-electric segment,” the statement added.
