Volvo Will No Longer Make Station Wagons Anymore

According to CEO Jim Rowan, there will be no room for station wagons at Volvo in the future.
In a recent interview with Auto Express, Rowan stated decisively that the company is undergoing a strategic shift, declaring that the station wagon has officially fallen out of favor. He emphasized, “Bringing new models to market is costly. It is far more cost-effective to increase volume across the same platform and form factor.”
Volvo aims to capitalize on the increasing popularity of SUVs by offering more specialized versions of its existing models, such as the Black Edition and Cross Country.
Rowan emphasizes the recent trend in the automotive market, which has increasingly shifted towards the popularity of SUVs, and highlights Volvo’s strategic decision to refine its product offerings. “We are making very conscious choices about where we want to compete in this evolving landscape,” he explained. By narrowing its focus, Volvo aims to position itself more effectively within this thriving sector, making deliberate decisions that align with consumer preferences and market dynamics.
