What Is The Number Of Electric Cars On European Roads?

Published

on

Data from the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) clearly show the intensity of energy transformation on European roads.

Although there are 248.8 million cars on the roads across Europe, only 3.9 percent of them can run on electricity. However, when plug-in hybrids are subtracted, the number of electric cars drops to just 1.8 percent. This means that the European fleet still consists of 96.1 percent of gasoline and diesel cars.

Trends also do not indicate significant changes in the market. While, for example, the Norwegian market for new cars consists of almost 98 percent electric cars, the picture is completely different in countries like Croatia and Slovakia, but also in large European countries like Italy or Spain, where electric cars have yet to leave a significant mark on the market.
