Hyundai’s First EREV Model Will Be The 2027 Santa Fe SUV,

Hyundai’s first EREV will be the Santa Fe in 2027. This undoubtedly concerns the facelifted variant that has already been spotted, but at its core, it is ‘simply’ the model currently in the showroom at your local Hyundai dealer. The hybrid or plug-in hybrid Santa Fe will thus gain an additional powertrain, although it is possible that the PHEV variant will be discontinued as a result.

Hyundai doesn’t explicitly say that the EREV is coming to Europe, but it seems logical. The Santa Fe will be built in the US state of Alabama, which is exceptional for a Santa Fe delivered in Europe. After all, most Santa Fes here ‘simply’ come from Korea. Hyundai promises a total driving range of 600 miles, or about 965 kilometers, for the Santa Fe EREV, although, in all honesty, that isn’t such an achievement for a car that relies on a gasoline engine and a fuel tank.

The EREV’s battery will be a special one as well. It will be about half the size of that of a comparable EV, suggesting it will be around 40 or 50 kWh. Hyundai develops the battery cells in-house and promises much better performance than the current generation of batteries, while charging times are reduced by up to 40 percent.

There is more in store. Hyundai also mentions the arrival of a new B-segment SUV, which you have already been able to see on this site. That car is being developed specifically for Europe, while the rest of the world is being offered a different compact SUV as an alternative. In addition, we can expect the new Tucson, as the exterior of that car has already been revealed.

In total, Hyundai will introduce 100 new models worldwide by 2030, although facelifts are included in this count. In Europe, this will involve 41 newcomers, with our continent lagging slightly behind Korea (49) and North America (58).
