Tokyo-based drone startup AERWINS Technologies (formerly A.L.I. Technologies Inc.) hopes to persuade wealthy consumers around the world to swap their supercars for its $546,000 hoverbike designed to beat traffic.
First unveiled in 2021 in Japan, the hovebike, named XTURISMO, made its United States debut in September 2022 at the Detroit Auto Show, where some attendees were able to take the flying bike for a test drive.
Equipped with a conventional engine and four battery-powered Kawasaki motor, the Star Wars-inspired world’s first flying bike promises to fly for about 40-minutes at a time at up to 100 kph (62 mph).
The official description of XTURISMO reads:
“Brining science fiction to life: Imagine a world where humans have free reign over the skies. Surely, life would be freer.”
“Expand your ideas about transport, experience the world like never before Pioneer the next generation of transport.”
AERWINS Technologies said that bike could be used by rescue teams to reach difficult to access locations. But it noted that it will not be allowed to fly over Japan’s packed roads for now.
The flying bike will go on sale in the United States later this year for £461,000 (about $546,000 at the current exchange rate). It is already on sale in Japan, with first delivery officially made on December 16, 2022.
