World’s First SuperSUV : Lamborghini’s military-style LM002 SUV dubbed “The Rambo Lambo” turns 40 years this year. 

As part of activities to mark its 40th anniversary, LM002 will be on permanent display at the Lamborghini Museum from 9 June.

Just 301 examples millitary-style LM002 SUV (Lamborghini Militaria 002) were manufactured between 1986 and 1993. 

LM002 sold for as much as 169 million Italian lire in 1987 (approximately $130,000 at the time and roughly $356,000 today.

Lamborghini is marking 40 years since the unveiling of the LM002, the world’s first true Super SUV, which combines the DNA of Sant’Agata Bolognese super sports cars with unprecedented off-road capability.

As part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of Lamborghini’s first Super SUV, the Italian sports car marque will put the LM002 on permanent display at the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese from 9 June.

“The LM002 represents one of the roots of Lamborghini’s contemporary vision,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s. “Far ahead of its time, it anticipated the concept of the Super SUV, inspiring not only our product philosophy but also design elements that can still be found today throughout the Urus family.”

First unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1986, the millitary-style LM002 SUV, which stands for Lamborghini Militaria 002, was the heir-apparent of the experimental Cheetah and LM001 projects developed between the late 1970s and early 1980s.





Featuring a powerful 5.2-liter V12 from the Countach Quattrovalvole
and a rock-solid aluminum and fiberglass body, the LM 002 could climb a 120% gradient and reached a top speed of 210 km/h, with an acceleration of 0 to 100 in 7.8 seconds.

Just 301 examples were manufactured between 1986 and 1993, with examples fetching as much as 169 million Italian lire in 1987 (approximately $130,000 at the time and roughly $356,000 today.

Many of these rugged off-roaders were reportedly sold to the super rich, including Gaddafi’s Libyan Army, the Saudis and Saddam Hussein’s son. A pristine example was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction recently for $300,000 in 2019.
