Ford Pro revealed the E-Transit Courier, a ground-up new all-electric commercial vehicle bringing enhanced connectivity and productivity for compact van customers.

The new E-Transit Courier is based on the current Ford Puma, the two vehicles share the platform and the E-Transit will be manufactured at the same Ford plant in Craiova, Romania. The factory is being adapted now and the second production line that used to produce Ford Ecosport will start churning out E-Transit vehicles towards the end of this year.

While the combustion-powered versions will arrive this year, the electric option will come at the beginning of 2024. At the same time, the passenger version dubbed Tourneo will join the ranks and will be available as an EV as well. That vehicle is set to be Ford’s cheapest passenger electric car on the market.

The E-Transit Courier is powered by a single electric motor, it puts down 100 kW (134 hp) through the front wheels and it offers one-pedal driving making it an ideal city delivery van. Although the company is not sharing the battery capacity yet, the advertised AC charging time of 5.7 hours (at 11 kW) suggests we are looking at a minimum 62kWh (usable) battery pack. DC charging time drops to 35 minutes at 100kW and the quick top-up charge adds 85 km of range in just 10 minutes.

The 2,900-liter cargo bay can stow 2 standard Euro pallets and there’s the optional pass-through bulkhead for longer items. The 44-liter frunk will come useful for charging cables, tools, and other smaller items. The payload is a substantial 700 kg and the towing capacity is set to 750 kg.

On the interior, it comes with two 12-inch screens that sit side by side and run Ford’s latest Sync4 infotainment software. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported as standard. Ford promises regular OTA updates and the always-on Ford Pro system ensures the vehicle remains relevant throughout its life.

To make life on the road easier for E-Transit Courier drivers, Ford offers Office Pack. It’s a foldable working surface big enough for a laptop. It comes with its own light for those late-night shifts. The security of the van is improved thanks to the lock packs with secondary hook locks which should stop theft attempts.
