Volkswagen entered the premium segment for the first time with the luxury-class SUV in 2002.

More than 1.2 million units sold in more than 39 countries, with Europe representing a significant sales market.

Volkswagen has launched the “Touareg Final Edition” to mark the end of production of the current model in 2026. The planned discontinuation of the Touareg comes 23 years after Volkswagen entered the premium segment for the first time with the luxury-class SUV in 2002.

Starting from 75,025 euros (or about $87,500, the special-edition Touareg model can be ordered until the end of March 2026 when the last examples will roll off the assembly line.

Distinct features includes striking “Final Edition” lettering laser-engraved on the window surrounds of the rear doors and also embossed in the leather of the gear lever.

In addition, the multicolour ambient lighting comes as standard in the Elegance equipment line and above. The label also appears in the illuminated dash panel trim and on the illuminated sill panel mouldings.

“Technology pioneer with a global success story spanning more than 20 years… These innovations have also made it the flagship in Volkswagen’s portfolio up to the present day,” Volkswagen said in a statement.

“Many features from the Touareg were also later available in the small car segment – luxury class technology became accessible to everyone.”

The current Touareg SUV is designed on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB-evo platform, which also supports the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and Bentley Bentayga, and the Lamborghini Urus.

Since its arrival over two decades ago, more than 1.2 million units of the Touareg have been sold in more than 39 countries, with Europe, and home country of Germany in particular, representing a significant sales market.

The sales figure includes 471,000 examples of the first-Gen (2002–2009), 483,000 units of the second-Gen (2010–2018), and about 265,000 examples of the 3rd-Gen (2018–2026).
