Court also ordered payment of ₦3.1m for damage to FRSC patrol vehicle, another offender’s car, while fleeing the scene.
FRSC reiterate its call on all motorists to obey traffic rules, respect patrol operatives and drive responsibly.
A High Court sitting in Abuja has convicted one Mr. Yusuf Baba for Dangerous Driving, sentencing him to 3 months imprisonment or a fine of ₦50,000, and ordering him to pay ₦3,190,000 for damages caused to FRSC patrol vehicle and other impounded vehicles during his brazen attempt to evade arrest.
In a statement, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that the incident, which occurred on 10th June 2025 under Dantata Bridge in Abuja, unfolded when the defendant was flagged down by FRSC operatives for the primary offence of overloading during a Mobile Court session.
“Instead of obeying lawful orders to stop, Baba recklessly sped off, lost control, and crashed into an FRSC patrol vehicle and another offender’s car, inflicting heavy damage before fleeing the scene.”
“He was later apprehended at Major Filling Station, along CITEC Road, and promptly charged to court on two counts bothering on Dangerous Driving and Assaulting a Marshal on Duty.”
Delivering judgment on 29th October 2025, the court found Baba guilty of Dangerous Driving, convicted and sentenced him accordingly, while discharging him on the count of Assaulting a Marshal on Duty.
In addition to his prison sentence and fine, the court suspended his driver’s licence for three months and ordered full restitution for the vehicles damaged through his reckless conduct.
Reacting to the verdict, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the judgment as “a resounding victory for road safety, law enforcement, and the principle of accountability on Nigerian roads.”
“This judgment has once again proven that the era of impunity on our roads is over. Anyone who endangers lives, attacks law enforcement, or damages public property will face the full wrath of the law. FRSC will never back down in defending the safety and dignity of its operatives and road users,” the Corps Marshal asserted.
“Pursuant to this, the Federal Road Safety Corps wishes to reiterate its call on all motorists to obey traffic rules, respect patrol operatives, and drive responsibly, as the Corps remains relentless in its mission to safeguard lives and restore sanity on Nigerian roads.”
