UAE Customs Unveils ‘Smart Inspection Vehicle’ That Can Spot Visa And Residency Violators

UAE’s Customs and Ports Security (ICP) unveils ‘Smart Inspection Vehicle’ that can detect Visa and residency violators.
AI-powered ‘Smart Inspection Vehicle’ use facial recognition system to detect visa and residency violators.
UAE’s ICP plans to deploy the first units of this ‘Smart Inspection Vehicle’ on the road in early 2026, starting with DUBAI.

The recently held Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Global 2025 in Dubai witnessed the launch of a fully electric “smart inspection car” designed to identify violators of visa and residency in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Unveiled by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), the vehicle boasts six cameras around its body, allowing it to capture facial images of people within roughly 10 metres of the car.

The system integrates with Artificial Intelligence (AI) sensors and a bespoke dashboard to present heat maps and alerts in real time, ICP told Gulf News.

“It’s fully electrical. It has its own dashboard, and it’s working with the AI, so it gives you some heat maps,” said Faris Almaeeni, Foreign Affairs Systems Department Manager, ICP.
ICP officers will drive the “smart inspection car” as part of their routine patrols and review flagged individuals on screen. When the car detects a potential violation, an officer will approach the person to verify their documents.

“The officer will go down and he will speak with him, and they will try to solve his issue with the being illegal in UAE,” Almaeeni added.
UAE’s ICP plans to deploy the first units of this ‘Smart Inspection Vehicle’ on the road in early 2026, starting with Dubai – the country’s largest city, with plans to expand to other emirates.
The “smart inspection car” is one of several new tech initiatives launched by ICP at 45th session of the Getex Global 2025 (from October 13 to 17) as part of a broader push to digitalise inspection and immigration functions.
