British owned Chinese-made Lotus Emeya recently achieved a record-breaking charging time during a test carried out by leading global consulting firm, P3, using the public charging network.
Using a 400-kW (600A capable) DC fast charger, the Emeya was able to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 14 minutes – making it one of the fastest charging electric vehicles (EVs) available today.
In its 2023 Charging Index for Asia, P3 said that the Emeya came out number one against the Mercedes EQS, BMW i7, Tesla Model Y, Genesis G80, Xpeng G9, Kia EVP, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Nio ET5 and BYD Atto 3.

1) Debut
The Lotus Emeya, a battery-electric luxury super saloon was revealed on 7 September 2023 as the company’s third electric vehicle – following the Eletre and the Evija.
2) All-electric drivetrain
With a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout, the Emeya produces between 592 hp and 905 hp and 985 Nm (726 lb-ft) of torque in the performance-oriented R version.
3) Performance
This all-electric drivetrain will allow the Emeya to reach a top-speed of 159 mph (256 km/h) and do a 0-62mph in 2.78 seconds, making it one of the quickest four-doors on the market.
4) Battery
Emeya uses a 102.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, which will allow the “Hyper GT” to go 610 kilometers (379 miles) when fully charged.
5) Charging time
Officially, a 800V battery technology with Advanced Lotus Hyper Charging allows a 10%-80% charge in just 18 minutes and a 310 kilometers worth of range within 10 minutes.
6) Price
The base Emeya starts at £94,950, rising to £107,450 for the sportier S variant, and then £129,950 for performance-oriented R version.
7) Competitors
The Lotus Emeya, the British company’s first electric hyper-GT will compete with all-electric flagships like the Porsche Taycan as well as the Audi e-tron GT.
