The Senate chief whip, Orji Kalu, has urged the Federal Government to provide necessary infrastructures, including constant power supply, as these will help aid and promote locally manufactured products.

According to Kalu, products that are made-in-Aba can compete with overseas products. The Senator added that with constant power supply, Aba will make cars as well as other products that are made in China.

Mr Kalu made this disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during the eighth edition of the Made-in-Aba Trade Fair.

“Made-in-Aba can solve a lot of problems; you can make anything in Aba. We are only asking that the federal government should give us light to boost productivity,”

“We can manufacture cars in Aba, and Aba can make anything that is made in China, but we need only one thing, light and nothing else, and you will see the wonders of Aba.”

This year’s Made-in-Aba Trade Fair was sponsored by the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, in partnership with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN).

While calling for the sustenance of the annual event, Mr Kalu commended SMEDAN and the event sponsor, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, for supporting SMEs’ growth.

Mr Abaribe, representing Abia-South Senatorial District, also supported Kalu’s claim. He stressed that made-in-Aba products were of better standard and could compete with those produced abroad.

The event was declared opened by the Senate President Ahmad Lawan. Lawan promised that the National Assembly would support efforts to ensure an enabling environment geared towards promoting creativity.
