Okada Ban: More Than A Week After, Lagosians Still Unhappy

More than a week have passed since Lagos State Government implemented the ban on Okada and Keke on the streets and Lagosians are not finding it funny. Many agree that the congestion has gradually reduced. However, they still feel the pain Lagosians are going through on a daily basis is enormous.

The major means of transport in Lagos is by public bus better known as “Danfo” and it been patronized by almost everyone. The fares of these Danfo used to range from ₦50 to ₦300 depending on the distance. Since the ban of Bikes and Kekes, transport fares have doubled. Danfo drivers have seized the opportunity to hike their prices.
Private car owners are not left out as some of them now take part in the new business avenue of transporting people and collecting a high fee.

Commercial vehicles have become so unavailable and the available vehicles have are now so expensive that many Lagosians have resulted in trekking long distances. These buses are also sparsely available because the Danfo drivers now ply other shorter routes which they can make more money from.
The ban of Okada and Keke seems to a good but it’s clearly a mixed reaction for Lagosians. The Government should act fast to alleviate the sufferings of Lagosians.
